DANCE

Heart of Gold: Project IV - This dance short film by Pilar Mata Dupont and Tarryn Gill, tells the story of a trooper chasing a murderous outlaw through the Australian outback. My approach to the music was to apply Stravinsky’s harmonic style to 2 Australian folk songs - one representing the outlaw (represented by the woodwinds), the other the trooper (represented by the brass and percussion). The musical phrases are cut up, juxtaposed and transformed in many ways, as the two groups of instruments are woven together by the solo strings.

Lament of the Argentine Military - This is an art film about the Argentinian dictator Videla, and the ‘Desaparecidos’ - people who were taken from their homes in green Ford Falcons and never seen again. The music is for voice, accordion, violin, piano and double bass, and is based on the Argentine Tango style. The lyrics are by Thea Costantino. (There is only audio unfortunately, as the video is a limited edition art piece.)
